Our 4-hour course is designed with South Dakota plumbers in mind. To begin this class, we’ll cover the basic history and reason for the UPC. We’ll also talk about the differences of the UPC from the IPC.

The bulk of our class will focus on providing you with the changes to the code, presented in context so that you can understand how the change affects the entire rule. In the first 3 chapters, we’ll address inspections, maintenance, repairs and alterations, and how to handle it when two relevant codes conflict.

We’ll cover changes to the terms used in the code, as well as minimum standards for the materials used in plumbing construction and repair. It also covers some alternate materials and methods that may be used. It covers working in flood hazard areas, handling wastes, and preventative measures to ensure the functionality of a plumbed system.

Changes to specific procedures will be covered, including the proper systems for healthcare and other specialized facilities. We’ll review the changes to regulations for fixtures and fittings, drainage systems, traps, and interceptors.

We’ll also review new changes to the UPC regarding rainwater catchment systems, and other alternate water sources to reduce water usage.
