Students who take this course will receive eight hours of Alaska Department of Commerce-approved instruction on the provisions and updates found in the 2024 International Mechanical Code (IMC).
This course covers the following topics:
- Chapter 1: Scope and Administration
- This segment deals with how and where the IMC is applicable, who the code official is, and how they administer this code.
- Chapter 2: Definitions
- This segment defines many of the specific terms used throughout the Code.
- Chapter 3: General Regulations
- Learn about the regulations that are applicable to more general concepts such as structure protection, equipment and appliance location, and piping support.
- Chapter 4: Ventilation
- The segment looks at the regulation of ventilation and ventilation systems.
- Chapter 5: Exhaust systems
- Learn how the Code regulates exhaust systems. Clothes dryer exhaust, domestic cooking exhaust equipment, and commercial kitchen makeup air are all discussed.
- Chapter 6: Duct Systems
- Examine regulations applicable to ducts and other related topics, including plenums, air filters, and transfer openings.
- Chapter 7: Combustion Air
- This segment looks at the general regulations dealing with combustion air.
- Chapter 8: Chimneys and Vents
- This segment explores the regulations governing chimneys and associated vents.
- Chapter 9: Specific Appliances, Fireplaces, and Solid Fuel-Burning Equipment
- Discover the regulations affecting fireplaces, incinerators, infrared heaters, forced-air warm-air furnaces, and other similar appliances.
- Chapter 10: Boilers, Water Heaters, and Pressure Vessels
- See how the IMC regulates water heaters, boilers, safety and pressure relief valves and controls, and expansion tanks.
- Chapter 11: Refrigeration
- This segment covers the regulation of refrigeration systems and refrigerants.
