This eight-hour course is approved for continuing education credit and covers how the 2023 NEC applies to commercial and industrial electrical installations, from basic terminology to the specific code requirements electricians rely on day-to-day.

Code scope and equipment basics. You'll start with how the NEC's scope applies to commercial and industrial work, what "Accessible" means as applied to equipment, and the qualities testing agencies check for when examining electrical equipment.

Conductors and wiring methods. The course covers how a terminal temperature rating affects conductor ampacity selection, the proper procedure for installing conductors in conduits, when PVC systems require support, where flexible cords are permitted, and the level of detail required for circuit identification. You'll also learn to interpret Table 310.12 for sizing phase conductors on dwelling unit services.

Boxes and switches. Sizing requirements for outlet and device boxes are covered, along with the importance of using switches within their rated limits and understanding what loads are permitted on them.

Overcurrent protection. You'll learn the minimum interrupting rating required for a circuit breaker, how to calculate the minimum feeder-tap ampacity, the purpose of an effective ground-fault current path, and the overcurrent protection requirements for both flexible bus systems and motor control centers (MCCs). The course also distinguishes continuous from non-continuous loads and explains when a feeder disconnect requires GFCI protection.

Motors and industrial machinery. You'll identify when more than one motor is permitted on a single branch circuit, when a motor requires a disconnecting means within sight of the motor, and how to calculate the minimum ampacity of feeder-supply conductors serving an industrial machine.

Personnel protection. Finally, the course identifies the installations and activities where GFCI protection for personnel is required.
