Massachusetts 6 Hour Construction Supervisor License CE

This class offers six hours of instruction in the most recent building codes and practices required for Massachusetts Construction Supervisor Specialty License renewals. The package includes four classes:

• Code Review: 9th Edition (2 hours)
  • A concise review of the important changes in moving from the 8th to the 9th Edition of the Massachusetts Building Code with a special focus on the Residential Codes, along with an overview of all Massachusetts building codes, a guide to their use, and a guide to recent code changes.
• Workplace Safety/OSHA (2 hours)
  • How to create and maintain a safe construction job site. The class reviews how safety is regulated in the workplace, how to identify hazards, the most common dangers, and recommended or mandated safety practices, with a special focus on safety practices for the building trades. Safety is a required topic for CE during each renewal period. This class includes 1 hour of required content and an additional hour of approved elective content.
• Energy Code/2021 IECC (1 hour)
  • The newest energy codes for Massachusetts represent a watershed. Energy-efficient design is now imbedded in all building codes, with the ambitious goal of reaching zero net emissions from the operation of newly constructed residences by 2050. Interim sublimits include emission reductions to 50% of the 1990 baseline by 2030 and 75% of the baseline by 2040, to be accomplished in part with the promulgation of a newly added third energy code to accompany the Base and Stretch Codes. This “Specialized Code” provides pathways to zero emission designs and will become a model for energy efficient construction for other states and municipalities.
• Masonry Essentials for Massachusetts CSLs (1 hour)
  • A brisk review of Basic Operations for Brick and Block, including a guide to materials and tools, types of brick walls, types of concrete masonry walls, how to identify risk factors when working with masonry and how to reduce risks.
