This four-hour course explores the structure and functionality of residential water heaters. It also provides plumbers with critical resources on federal energy standards. It examines the recent mandate requiring all water heaters in the United States to transition to heat pump technology by 2029.

Key course topics include:

  • Terminology relevant to gas and electric water heaters
  • Types of water heaters approved for use in the U.S.
  • Functions of components of different units
  • Standards for safe operation and maintenance
  • Guidelines, regulations and continued learning resources
  • Water heater sizing methods and proper installation
  • Renewable energy practices and conservation technologies
  • Hydronic and commercial energy-saving systems

The course does not require a final exam. Instead, each section ends with a series of review questions and quizzes based on the content covered.
