  • 6 Hour Course
  • $40.00

This package will provide Professional Engineers in the state of Illinois 6 Professional Development Hours.

This class covers the significant changes made to the most central Articles in the NEC from Article 90 [Introduction] through Chapter 2 [Wiring and Protection].

The class begins with a look at the code review process for the 2020 National Electrical Code® (NEC-2020) along with an overview of how NEC-2020 is organized, the new Articles, and code-wide changes.

In the second hour, 13 new or revised definitions from Chapter 1 [General] are covered, including “Equipotential Plane”, “Free Air”. “Grounded Conductor”. “Island Mode”, and “Reconditioned”. The significant changes to four general requirements complete this portion of the class, including changes to 110.12 Mechanical Execution of Work, 110.14 Terminal Connection Torque, 110.22 Identification of Disconnecting Means, and Spaces About Electrical Equipment.

The final four hours of the class illuminate the 42 significant changes made to Chapter 2 during the 2017-2020 code review cycle. These changes are among the most complex in NEC-2020 as well as having the widest impact. The material presented are intended to help working electricians keep up with the latest changes to GFCI and AFCI requirements, apply new approaches on branch circuits, and adhere to the latest codes on receptacles, including those on kitchen islands, in meeting rooms, and on decks or porches. It also covers the first major changes to the calculation of lighting loads since 1971 (based on new research), explores new Surge Protection and Emergency Disconnect rules, and ends by covering numerous changes to grounding and bonding provisions, including those on alternative sources of power.

A Final Exam is included in this course to meet the continuing professional competency requirement (CPC) for online courses for Profession Engineers in Illinois.
