Kansas Electrical License Renewal and CE Requirements

The state of Kansas does not license electricians directly. Instead, licensing, continuing education, and renewal is handled by the individual jurisdictions at the city or county level.

The key to following the right steps to legally maintain your Kansas electrical license is to research your local area's procedures for license/trade certificate renewal, including the continuing education (CE) hours you need.

Our courses are approved by the Kansas Electrical Education Review Committee and do meet the requirements for many jurisdictions. This includes the following:

• Concordia: 12 hours required every 2 years; license renewal date is staggered.
• Dodge City: 6 hours required every year; licenses expire on December 31, every year.
• El Dorado: 12 hours required every 2 years; licenses expire on December 31, every odd year.
• Emporia: 6 hours required every year; licenses expire on December 31, every year.
• Manhattan: 12 hours required every 2 years; license renewal date is staggered, every even year.
• Sedgwick County: 12 hours required every 2 years; licenses expire on December 31 of each odd-numbered year.
• Shawnee County/Topeka: 6 hours required every year; licenses expire on December 14, every year.

If your city or county is not listed, please verify your continuing education requirements with your licensing jurisdiction.

Note: Johnson County, Miami County, the City of Lawrence, and the City of Winfield do NOT approve online education at this time.
