This 12-hour package is accepted for Kansas plumbers.

The first course includes an introduction to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and covers the important changes made throughout the Code. The major changes to the Code in this update are covered in detail. Many of the minor changes to the code are also covered, however, not as comprehensively on in as much detail.

The class takes the form of 11 lessons:

Introduction to the UPC

This lesson serves as an introduction to the Uniform Plumbing Code, and covers how the UPC is organized, and includes the scope and purpose of each Chapter and Appendix.

Changes to Chapter 

This lesson covers all of the ways that the terms and definitions in this Chapter were updated, including changes to the terms "Patient Care Space" and "Plumbing System".

Changes to Chapter 3

This lesson covers the major and minor changes to Chapter 3 of the UPC, including the scope and purpose of Chapter 3, the addition of a new Section on "Sound Transmission" and changes to "Installation Practices", with detailed explanations of how the major changes to general regulations impact all aspects of work in the field.

Changes to Chapter 4

This lesson covers the major and minor changes to Chapter 4 of the UPC, Fixtures, Faucets and Fixture Fittings, including how the "Design and Installation of Plumbing Fixtures" was changed.

Changes to Chapter 5

This lesson covers both the major and the minor changes to Chapter 5 of the UPC, including detailed explanations of how the major changes affect installation and maintenance of water heaters, including revisions of "Installation in Residential Garages" and how the major changes made to "Plastic Piping" affect the plumber.

Changes to Chapter 6

This lesson covers a wide number of changes to Water Supply and Distribution, one of the central areas of concern to plumbers, including the requirements of the new Section, "Chemical Dispensers".

Changes to Chapter 7

This lesson covers the major or minor changes to Chapter 7 of the UPC, detailing each update made to the Chapter and explaining how they affect the plumber, including the clearance requirements for cleanouts in piping.

Changes to Chapters 8, 9, and 10 [Indirect/Special Waste; Vents; Traps, Interceptors and Separators]

This lesson covers all of the changes to three Chapters, including requirements for PVC exposed to sunlight, and a new Section, "Trap Seal Primers".

Changes to Chapter 11

This lesson covers the major and minor changes to Chapter 11 on storm drainage, including detailed explanations of how the major changes affect the plumber and how to maintain a storm drainage system in accordance with the current provisions of the UPC.

Changes to Chapter 13

This lesson covers the purpose and standards for Chapter 13 and the major changes to Chapter 13 on Health Care Facilities and Medical Gas and Medical Vacuum Systems, including detailed explanations of how those changes affect the plumber.

Changes to the Appendixes

This lesson covers the major changes to the UPC Appendixes, including their scope and purposes. the current sustainable practices described in Appendix L, and how to utilize the Peak Water Demand Calculator.

This second course covers the changes made during the 2015-2018 code review of the 2018 International Plumbing Code® (IPC). Each change in this class is presented in a “cut-and-paste” format with any deletions and additions clearly shown. Each change is then discussed for the reason it was made and how it impacts a licensee, based in part on the proceedings of the ICC Technical Committees.

Introduction to the International Plumbing Code (IPC)

  • Reviews the Purposes, Scope, and Organization of the IPC as well as differences between Performance vs. Prescriptive Standards

Changes to Chapters 1 and 2 of the 2018 IPC

  • Introduces the New Commentary Text added at each Chapter Head and reviews the changes to Definitions for Accessible, Full-Open Valve, Press-Connect Joint, Registered Design Professional, Public Swimming Pool & Swimming Pool

Changes to Chapter 3 General Regulations

  • Reviews changes to 303.4 Third-Party Certification, 303.5 Third-Party Certification for Cast-Iron Pipe, 305.1 Corrosion Protection for Metallic Piping, 305.6 Protection Against Physical Damage, 308.5 Hanger Spacing Table, 308.6 Sway Bracing for Drainage Piping, and 308.10 Thermal Expansion Tank Support
