This course is a great way to receive information about recent changes in the codes that are essential to the working HVAC professional in Kentucky. It starts with an overview of the International Mechanical Code and then dives right into all the significant changes made when the IMC was updated from the 2012 edition to the 2015 edition.
- Once the history and organization of the IMC have been reviewed, along with a quick chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the book, the course dives right into the significant changes, starting with Chapters 1 and 2 on Administration and on Definitions.
- In Chapter 3, General Regulations, students learn about changes made to such areas as confined space requirements and changes in fall arrestor requirements.
- Chapter 4 on Ventilation Requirements has significant changes in the area of outdoor airflow rates.
- Due to the volume of changes for Chapter 5, exhaust systems, it's broken into three parts that discuss subjects ranging from pressure equalization to domestic kitchen exhausts, to mitigation of grease accumulation in commercial exhaust systems, to air balancing and hazardous exhaust handling.
- Chapter 6 deals with the changes to sections dealing with ducting and duct systems, and in Chapter 7, changes to a single section on dampered opening is examined.
- In the next segment, Chapters 8 and 9 are examined as we look at sections dealing with chimneys and vents, and sections on gasketed fireplaces and evaporative coolers.
- Chapters 10 and 11 of IMC are put together in the next segment, and examine all the changes from those relating to boilers, water heaters, and pressure vessels, to the subject of refrigeration.
- The next section of the course deal with Chapters 12 through 15, the last of the IMC. The HVAC pro will review changes made in areas from hydronic piping to fuel oil piping, to solar systems, and then finish with a review of the changes made in Chapter 15, Referenced Standards.
- For the final phase of the course, the HVAC pro will be able to examine changes made to the Kentucky Building Code and the Kentucky Residential Codes in order to be more closely aligned with the IMC.
During this course, there will be several quizzes along the way that will help to test students' understanding of the subject.

Instructor Bio
Dan Whaley, was trained in HVAC in the Air Force where he spent eight years after high school. His time in the Air Force gave him the opportunity to do everything from repairs of advanced systems to planning the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs that were used in over 250 facilities.Dan is currently a Lead Technician for a one million square foot, 300+ bed medical hospital.
