What Are The Education Requirements for Utah Contractors?

  • In the state of Utah, licensed contractors are required to obtain 6 hours of continuing education every two years.
  • HVAC contractors (S350 classification) are required to have 3 of their 6 hours of CE as 'directly related to the installation, repair, or replacement of a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning system' for the 2019 renewal.'
  • 3 hours must be 'core' classes, and the other 3 can be Core or Professional courses.
  • Additionally, only 3 hours of a contractor's continuing education can be done in an online format. The remaining 3 of your 6 hours must come from a live classroom format course.
    • The Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing is lifting the temporary waiver of 'live' CE requirements that allowed licensees to meet their CE requirements online or virtually, but will accept online/virtual CE as 'live' CE until December 31, 2021.
