CE Requirements to Renew a KY Master and Journeyman HVAC License

In the state of Kentucky, HVAC licensees are required to have 6 total hours of continuing education.

Per state code, your HVAC CE hours need to focus on one or more of the following:

  • Business
  • Job safety
  • Codes relating to HVAC
  • Subject matter directly relating to the HVAC trade

Here in Kentucky, when you earn your HVAC license, you can choose to become either a journeyman or a master. Master HVAC licensees have more independence because journeyman HVAC mechanics have to work under a master’s supervision. But the master license comes with more work, including a longer, more involved exam.

Ultimately, whichever license type you choose, you need to stay on top of the requirements to maintain your license as described above.

State of Kentucky HVAC License Renewal Deadlines

  • Licenses need to be renewed by the last day of your birth month. So, if you were born in January, you need to have your CE completed and your renewal form submitted by January 31, each year.
