14 Hour Course
Course ID: 611276
Approved By: Florida DBPR
This 14-hour course is designed to satisfy all of the continuing education requirements that Florida HVAC contractors must satisfy every two years.
In the course, we’ll begin with the Florida Building Code, Mechanical (FBCM), a statewide code based on the standards of the IMC. Although we won’t be able to cover every change, we will look at the changes deemed most significant by the Florida Building commission. We’ll also look at some of the most significant changes to the IMC.
The first part of the course will address Florida regulations. These govern the liens that contractors use to ensure that they are paid for their work, as well as the rules for construction contracting that are enforced by the Construction Industry Licensing Board. We’ll finish this section with the regulations that contractors need to know with regard to wind mitigation basics, and the laws and regulations that apply in this area.
The next section will address safety and insurance issues, including an OSHA overview, and a review of job site safety and the most common hazards to be aware of. We’ll talk about some general safety practices to use as well, before we review worker’s compensation issues.
The final section of our course will discuss business management topics. These include practicing professionalism as a contractor, using business contracts, and creating a marketing plan to sell your services.
Finally, we’ll talk about liability issues, and how to implement some risk management techniques to protect yourself from liability.
