CE Requirements to Renew an Iowa HVAC License

  • Licensees with a Single License must take 8 hours of CE prior to license renewal.
    • 2 hours must cover safety (Iowa Occupational Health & Safety)
    • 2 hours must cover code (applicable plumbing or mechanical code)
    • 4 hours must cover discipline (must be in current license discipline only)
  • People who hold Multiple Mechanical Licenses must take 14 hours.
    • 4 hours must cover safety (Iowa Occupational Health & Safety)
    • 2 hours must cover mechanical code
    • 8 hours must cover discipline (from one or any combination of discipline licenses held)
  • Anyone who holds any Combination of Mechanical & Plumbing Licenses must obtain 16 hours.
    • 4 hours must cover safety (Iowa Occupational Health & Safety)
    • 2 hours must cover mechanical code
    • 2 hours must cover plumbing code
    • 8 hours must cover discipline (from one or any combination of discipline licenses held)

Only 50% of hours can be taken online.

All of our courses are approved by the Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board.

State of Iowa HVAC License Renewal Deadlines

  • All HVAC/R and Mechanical license renewals must be complete by June 30th every 3 years (2026, 2029, 2032, etc.).
